Standerton is a large agricultural and commercial town on the banks of the Vaal River in Mpumalanga which specialises in cattle, dairy, poultry and maize farming. The town of Standerton inherited its name from the original owner of the farm on which it is built, Adrian Hendrik Stander. The Vaal River flows through Standerton and provides much in the way of water based activities. The Grootdraai Dam is 10 kilometers outside of Standerton and is a one of its main attractions, bringing in revenue from visitors wishing to see the dam and enjoy the activities.
