Senekal is a town situated on the banks of the Klipspruit River in the eastern part of the Free State province. It was named after Commandant-General FP Senekal. Senekal lies on the N5 national highway between Bethlehem to the east and Winburg on the west. Farming from and around Senekal plays a vital role to the economy of the province and country at large. Produce includes maize, sunflower, wheat, milk and meat livestock. The two most spoken official languages around Senekal are Sesotho and Afrikaans. Though quiet and charming, it is one of the most underdeveloped towns in the Free State.
