Secunda is a town built around coalfields in the province of Mpumalanga. It was named for being the second extraction refinery producing oil from coal after Sasolburg, a nearby town. Secunda is a relatively new town built around coalfields in Mpumalanga. The town of Secunda was built when the construction of Sasol Two commenced. Sasol Two and Sasol Three, known as Secunda CTL, produces synthetic fuel, diesel, and related fuels and petrochemicals from coal gasification. Sasol Two and Three are large industrial refineries, within view, and sometimes earshot, of the town of Secunda.
