Robertson, known as the valley of wine and roses is a small town in the Western Cape. It is situated in the fertile Robertson Valley, wagon construction and agriculture were the town's earliest industries. However, after the Second Anglo-Boer War, the wagon building industry collapsed when the railways took over the transportation of all goods.

Robertson subsequently became famous for its ostrich farming, but the industry collapsed as well shortly after World War I and thus the farmers of the area switched to fruit and wine in their farming. Later, several successful stud farms were founded. Agriculture remains the cornerstone of the town's economy up to the present day. Tourism has also grown in recent years with the town has several South African National Monuments.

The wine industry in Robertson has grown from less than 25 cellars to more than 50 registered wine cellars since 1995. There are a number of wine cellars that receive the highest awards both internationally and locally each year. Wine cellar tours, wine tasting, horse riding, riverboat cruises, tractor rides, hiking and a host of other activities are available. The area has an excellent tourism infrastructure, info offices, maps with activities listed, boats, river, hiking trails, game farms, maize and much more.
