Information on Quigney, Eastern Cape, South Africa

Quigney is a suburb of East London in the Eastern Cape. Quigney derived its name from the stream which flows down the valley from above the railway station to the harbour. The earliest maps of East London refer to this stream as the Gwygney River, and for many years this spelling was consistently used. In time, however, the pronunciation changed to the present day Quigney.

The beach is practically a stone’s throw away and offers a pristine and secure environment in which to enjoy the warm, blue waters and sandy white shore line. Swimming and tanning are superb while there are a plethora of water sports to enjoy including fishing, scuba diving, sailing and water skiing. Other attractions in proximity include Hemingways Casino, the Buffalo Cricket Stadium, the fine restaurants of the Esplanade and the East London Aquarium.
