Krugersdorp is a city ion the West Rand of Gauteng. It is primarily a mining city. It was founded in 1887 by Marthinus Pretorius and named after Paul Kruger. Gold, iron, manganese, lime and asbestos are mined in the area. When gold was discovered on the Witwatersrand, a need arose for a major town in the west of the reef. Krugersdorp is the site of the December 1880 meeting at which more than six thousand men vowed to fight for the Transvaal's independence.

Krugersdorp no longer has a separate municipal government, and the municipality has become part of and is the seat of the Mogale City municipality, along with surrounding towns. Krugersdorp Nature Reserve is a protected area in Gauteng. You can see all the game there, but not in its natural surroundings like in some of the much larger reserves.
