Klerksdorp is an administrative district and city located in the North West Province. The greater city area of Klerksdorp incorporates the towns of Stilfontein, Orkney, Kanana, Khuma, Tigane and Hartbeesfontein.
Together with Rustenburg, Klerksdorp forms the commercial centre of North West Province. It is still one of South Africa’s gold mining industry hubs, although its importance has been decreasing in recent years.
Klerksdorp is expected to be a large uranium producer in the future, but is also positioned as a notable retail, medical and education centre for Northern Free State and North West Province.
The Klerksdorp area is also a significant player in South African agriculture. Important crops that are farmed in the region include sunflowers, maize, sorghum, and groundnuts.
