Bethlehem is located in a valley of the Maluti Mountains in the Free State. Attractions include: Baartman House, Bethlehem Museum, Nazareth Mission Church, Pretorius Bird Sanctuary, Sandstone Buildings, Wolhuterskop Nature Reserve.

Approximately 8 kms from Bethlehem there is a cairn of rocks which is highly significant to the Sotho people of Lesotho. It is a wheat growing area and hence the name Bethlehem (from “Beit Lechem”, Hebrew for “house of bread”).

The town lies at an altitude of 1700m, and this contributes to its cool climate with frosty winters and mild summers. The average annual temperature in Bethlehem is around 14OC.
