Eastern Cape History - Conference Venues South AfricaThe Eastern Cape Province was created in 1994 after apartheid ended. It incorporated areas from the former Xhosa homelands of the Ciskei and Transkei, together with what was formerly part of the Cape Province. This resulted in some anomalies including enclaves of KwaZulu-Natal in the province and the fact that the Province has four supreme courts in Mthatha, Port Elizabeth, Bhisho and Grahamstown. The second anomaly has fallen away with amendments to municipal and provincial boundaries.
