Citrusdal houses the oldest orange tree in South Africa which is said to be more than 250 years old and declared a national monument. Citrusdal is situated between the Cedarberg, Koue Bokkeveld and the Swartberg Mountains. Citrusdal is surrounded by numerous orchards of citrus fruits. The superior citrus products and Golden Valley wines, made from grapes grown in the valley and on surrounding farms, has contributed to make Citrusdal world renowned. The area produces about 100.000 tons of citrus annually, almost entirely for export. Citrusdal has a small museum, which mainly focuses on the history of the town, the first pioneers and the local Khoisan.
