Fishing in the Limpopo Province
Fishing in the Limpopo Province - Conference Venues
Fishing in the Limpopo Province is a popular attraction amongst locals and tourists alike. The Limpopo river is one of the most popular destinations amongst anglers and an impressive catch is the order of the day in this river that is also known for its flourishing crocodile population. However do not neglect the fishing opportunities of the Olifants River in the Lowveld, the Levubu and Mutale Rivers in the Venda area and the Letaba River to the east of the Kruger National Park. Bream, tilapia, barbell, yellowfish and triggerfish are among the species that can be lured to the hooks of keen anglers. At the same time do not neglect fishing opportunities offered in the dams and lakes in the province.
Civic Plaza and Square
Lovely landscaped gardens with walkways, streams and ponds provide the perfect setting for the Civic Plaza. The Art Museum in the Library Gardens houses an impressive art collection. The Jack Botes Hall is a venue for congresses and cultural performances. A wealth of exotic plants at the Conservatory will delight horticulturists and gardeners. A bandstand dating from the 1920's stands on the south-western corner of the square. The restored Dutch Reformed Church houses the Hugh Exton Collection which comprises 22,000 glass negatives and many photographs of great historical value.

Best explored at leisure, the picturesque town of Louis Trichardt lies in one of the loveliest regions of the country, the Soutpansberg. Named after a Voortrekker leader, this historic town serves a thriving farming community. Vast cattle and game ranches occur in the area, and citrus, subtropical fruit, nuts and vegetables are produced on a large scale. Hunting and photographic safaris are available on private ranches in the area. With its many hotels, game lodges, resorts and a private nature reserve, the district is a tourist's paradise. It's also a birder's dream. Annual events include; Bosveld Marathon in March/April; Baobab Bicycle Race in May; Soutpansberg Show in July; Soutpansberg Mountain Race in October.
Schoemansdal Voortrekker Town and Museum
Sixteen kilometres west of Louis Trichardt, the museum is built on the site of the original Voortrekker village and depicts the lifestyle of the pioneers between 1848 and 1852.
Kruger National Park
Kruger National Park
Kruger National Park is the largest game reserve in South Africa. The park has 8 main gates that allow entrance to the different camps. The names of these gates are Paul Kruger, Numbi, Malelane, Crocodile Bridge, Punda Maria, Orpen, Phabeni, Phalaborwa and Pafuri. All the Big Five game animals are found at Kruger National Park, which has more species of mammals than any other African Game Reserve (at 147 species). The Kruger National Park has 21 rest camps, as well as 7 private lodge concessions, and 11 designated private safari lodges. The concessions are parcels of land operated by private companies in partnership with communities, who outsource the operation of private lodges. Nine different trails are on offer in the Kruger National Park, some are overnight and last several days in areas of wilderness virtually untouched by humans. There are no set trails in the wilderness areas; you walk along paths made by animals or seek out new routes through the bush.
