Conference Facilities - Country Club (
Conference Venues and Conference Centres in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal )
The Athlone Room is decorated with prints of charcoal
and water colour pictures of early colonial architecture round South Africa,
from Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg. It has a central, square wooden
inlaid dance floor that can be covered if not required. This room is conducive
for most functions in a variety of seating arrangements and can hold any
number of audiences up to 70 in dinner cluster style and 100 in cinema
/ conference style. The room is situated directly overlooking the 18th
green, the edge which is about 6 meters away, with excellent views of
the bowling greens and beautiful sea views beyond
The Belvedere Room is on the upper level directly off
the Main Staircase, through the Ball Room and is an elongated rectangular
shape. It is the largest of the function rooms and is a regular favourite
for workgroups, discussions, conferences etc., as well as popular Club
functions. It is decorated with rich Indian print materials on the tables
and chairs. There are no walls conducive to decorations, as the Eastern
wall is glass overlooking the bowling greens, swimming pool and the Indian
Ocean, the Western wall consists of the 8 arches separating it from the
Ball Room, and the other two walls are much smaller, with the Northern
wall forming a backdrop to the in-house bar facility. It has a wooden
inlaid dance floor that can be covered if not required. This room is conducive
for most functions in a variety of seating arrangements and can hold any
number of audiences up to 200 in dinner cluster style and 280 in cinema
/ conference style
The Waterman Room is on the upper level to the left of
the Main Staircase, next to the Athlone Room. Here the Durban Country
Club remembers one of its sons - Mr. Waterman was one of the original
architects of this fine golf course and inside a wooden cabinet proudly
stands the golden Waterman cup, initially presented to members who have
rendered invaluable services to the Club but in subsequent years have
become the trophy presented to the winner of the Waterman Golf Challenge.
With a room like this, who has time to look out the window? But those
who do will be met by the 18th green below, and the 1st tee, the bowling
greens, and to the right the Indian Ocean. And when you turn around again,
Mr. Waterman just smiles at you. This room is conducive for most functions
in a variety of seating arrangements and can hold any number of audiences
up to 120 in dinner cluster style and 140 in cinema/conference style.
It has a wooden inlaid dance floor that can be covered if not required
The Green Room has some stunning 1923 watercolors that
were donated by Rupert and Eva Sheffield-Webb to The Durban Country Club
on its 75th Anniversary and are displayed proudly on these walls. The
rest of the decor includes plush carpeting and acoustic friendly curtaining,
making this smallest function room very private and intimate. Being so
small, it is ideal for small parties, exhibits, etc.The room is situated
with a view of the 1st tee and excellent views of the bowling greens and
beautiful sea views beyond to the right
The Card Room is on the upper level to the left of the
Main Staircase, then up again past the Grill Room to a smaller stairway
leading to a third level - a sort of loft if you like. It has smallish
windows, making the room darker and more conducive to board meetings,
lectures etc. where overhead projectors and slide material will be used.
The room has beautiful views of the course, and of Morningside - one of
Durban's favourite suburbs - with the city skyline seen from opposite
windows in the distance. The Card Room is ideal for smaller audiences
from 10 to 30 people with total privacy from the other function areas
The Ball Room is on the upper level as you reach the
top of the Main Staircase. It is a large ballroom with a wooden floor
and is ideal for big parties and suave dinners accompanied by waltzes,
polkas or tangos until the early hours. It also doubles up as an en suite
buffet area for the Belvedere when that entertains large functions and
catering is not served per table. This room is divided from the Belvedere
by means of elegantly dressed arches, making the two rooms separable but
also integral if required. There are no outside views, as it lies centered
on the building's upper level
