Situated between Bela Bela (Warmbaths) and Thabazimbi in the Limpopo Province (formerly the North West Province) Rooiberg was once the residence of employees of the Rooiberg Tin Mining Company. When the mine closed in the early 1990’s the town became deserted and was well on its way to becoming a ghost town.

Fortunately a consortium bought it and started selling the mine houses to private buyers. The mine single quarters have been converted into a retirement village, the mine offices are now a school and the mine recreation centre is small hotel with facilities that are still available to the village (i.e. swimming pool, tennis court, squash court and miniaturegolf).

In spite of the gentrification taking place you’ll still see the occasional donkey cart being driven around the town. And if you listen carefully you may hear the roar of lions and the cry of jackals early in the morning or at night.

Although the town enjoys a rural setting, "in the middle of nowhere" it has a good infrastructure to meet the most basic requirements :
* 2 general shops
* 2 liquor stores
* Butchers shop
* Hardware store

It’s also remarkably well policed with a sizable Police Station just down the road from the house so, not surprisingly, Rooiberg is almost 100% crime free.

Nearby you will find access to a number of game reserves.
