About Pongolapoort, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Pongolapoort Nature Reserve is a park in the Umkhanyakude District of Kwazulu-Natal, about 30 km southeast of the town Pongola. Within the nature reserve is the Pongolapoort Dam, also known as the Jozini Dam. Many bird species can be found here.

Pongolapoort is located in the Lebombo Mountain Range in Northern Zululand in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa.

Hippos, crocodiles and numerous species of aquatic birds have made the dam their home, while the mountain slopes provide an ideal habitat for both small and large game. Fishing is available at Pongolapoort Dam.

Pongolapoort is the venue for a number of fishing tournaments throughout the year, including the Tiger Fishing Tournament held every October.
