About Graskop, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Graskop is a small town in Mpumalanga province, South Africa. It was set up in the 1880s as a gold mining camp but it now serves as a timber industry and milling centre. “God’s Window”, a breathtaking view from the escarpment of the Lowveld below, is located outside the town.

Graskop is situated in the panorama tourist region of Mpumalanga and is mainly a tourist and forestry town. Graskop is closely located to attractions such as: God's Window, Bourkes Luck Potholes, Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondawels and plenty of scenic waterfalls. Graskop boasts a fime array of accommodation and activities such as the Big Swing, Kruger National Park, Quad trails, Hiking, Archery, Gold panning, paint ball to mention a few.

Graskop History

Ruins of a settlement dating 1400 are found in the area while Graskop itself was founded by Dutch Reformed Church Reverend Frans Cachet who was converted to Christianity in the town of Graskop in the Netherlands. The town was reduced to a single standing home by the British during the Second Boer War.
