Bishopstowe is situated 10km east of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Cumberland nature reserve in Bishopstowe has been proclaimed a natural heritage site. Farming activities are dominated by sugar cane with cattle, poultry, fruit and vegetables. The Duzi Canoe Marathon passes through the area annually.
The Flora of the Bishopstowe area ranges from decidous Woodlands to valley Bushlands in the Msunduzi Valley. The dominant trees are acacias and bird life is prolific in the area with raptors well represented. There are over 60 species of reptiles and many buck and other small wild animals.
